Artificial Turf Prices: While the initial cost of artificial turf remains higher than a start-up for a natural grass lawn, prices have stabilized — and on average have declined as turf has become less of a novelty and more of a viable landscaping choice. In the Southwest, where artificial turf’s market share has increased annually for the last decade, the square-foot cost has been lowered by as much as 15 percent while quality has improved and warranties have been lengthened. Prices for artificial turf in residential installations typically range from $7 to $15 per square foot, and that variance can typically be explained by the density of the artificial turf material and a company’s installation techniques. A basic rule: The heavier the artificial turf, the more synthetic fiber it contains, the more pricey the product. Other factors in pricing of artificial turf is the depth of the pile (taller costs more), the type of plastic grass blades (polyethylene monofilament costs more than the old-fashioned slit-film), the variance in colors (one-tone green grass carpet usually costs the least, multi-green fiber with brown “thatch” costs the most) and the thickness of the backing. The type of infill used in the artificial turf (silica sand and recycled ground rubber are the least costly; non-absorbent premium infills such as Durafill and FlexSand cost most.) Materials usually constitute more than one-half the cost of an artificial turf installation. Artificial Turf Prices
